EU and Saudi Arabia introduce new standards for Type C products

Latest news! The EU will soon enforce compliance with IEC62680-1-2 and EN IEC62680-1-3 standards for Type C products.

Subsequently, Saudi Arabia will also enforce SASO EN IEC62680-1-2 and SASO EN IEC62680-1-3 standards from January 1, 2025.

EU regulations：

Directive (EU) 2022/2380 requires 13 categories of products to uniformly adopt USB Type-C interface from December 28, 2024, and CE-RED certification requires submission of EN 62680-1-3:2021 and EN 62680-1-2:2021 test reports. Product types include smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers, and handheld video game consoles.

Saudi Arabian Standard：

SASO stipulates that from August 1, 2024, 18 categories of products applying for Saudi PCoC certification must provide SASO IEC 62680-1-2 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3 test reports. Product types include mouse, keyboard, speaker, camera, etc.

In addition, for mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, portable gaming devices, headphones, wired and wireless in-ear headphones, headsets and other products, the mandatory time for using the USB Type-C interface is January 1, 2025.

This means that exporting companies need to consider the following requirements:

Device Compatibility:All related equipment must comply with these standards to ensure compatibility.

Market Access:Products that do not meet the standards may not be sold in the EU/Saudi market.

Technical upgrade:Manufacturers may need to upgrade their products to meet new requirements.
