SASO has issued an important update on Type-C charger standards for smartphones and electronic devices.
Here are the key points:
1.Acceptance of Existing Test Reports:
Test reports conforming to SASO IEC 62368-1:2020 (Safety Requirements) will be accepted.
2.Self-Declaration of Conformity:
Companies can submit a self-declaration in their technical file, committing to standardise charging ports as per SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023.
3.Grace Period:
A one-year grace period starts on 1 January 2025. After this, companies must submit test reports compliant with the new standards.
Standards Update: SASO updated two standards (SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 & SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023) on 15 May 2024, aiming to unify charger port types and performance requirements.
Implementation Adjustment: The standards will now take effect on 1 January 2025.
